Annual Meeting 2015
2015 Sheldon Family Reunion and Annual Meeting – Rancho Cordova, CA
July 30 – August 2, 2015
La Quinta Inn – Rancho Cordova (Sacramento) California
Host: Betty Shelden Knopf
The theme of “California Is Calling You” was introduced in a three part talk by Jim Russell about the migration to California in 1850. Attendees learned much about Jared Sheldon, an early settler who was connected with John Sutter of gold rush fame. Some personal memories were shared by his granddaughter. A visit to historic Elm Grove House and Stage Museum was a highlight on Friday. Several short talks provided a wide variety of knowledge. Time was provided for enjoying lunch and optional wine tasting at the oldest continuous operating winery in Sacramento County.
Special features of this reunion were a dinner where everyone was encouraged to wear their jeans in honor of Californian Levi Strauss , an opportunity to purchase some new or gently used clothing on which Betty had “Sheldon Family Association” embroidered, and a chance to buy a Sheldon Bear made with corks donated by Tobe Sheldon from the Sheldon Winery in Santa Rosa . Betty designed and patented these adorable bears which are a real keepsake.
